EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy

What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a type of therapy that taps into your mind’s natural tendency to heal. EMDR works with memories that get frozen and isolated due to a break down in memory storage when the body experiences high stress such as during fight or flight. We work to connect the painful and troubling memories with the adaptive information you already possess to significantly and quickly reduce distress.

What does it treat?

EMDR was initially created to help with symptoms of trauma. Since then it has been shown to work with a wide variety of issues. At Karatay Counseling, I offer EMDR for:

  • Childhood Abuse

  • Physical/Sexual/Emotional Abuse

  • Physical/Emotional Neglect

  • Domestic Abuse Survivors

  • Sexual Abuse Survivors

  • Complicated Grief

  • PTSD and Complex PTSD

  • Chronic Adversity

  • Chronic Distress

Is EMDR for you?

EMDR is for you: if you feel unsafe even when you know you are not; if you feel unworthy, unlovable, or like you are to blame. EMDR may be for you if you have tried other types of therapy and feel like they have not worked. EMDR might be for you if there is something from your past that you can’t get over.
